An honest comparison

Implants vs. dentures: an honest comparison.

Both implants and dentures replace missing teeth, but they work very differently. Here’s a straightforward comparison so you can decide what fits your situation.

Cost: dentures are significantly less expensive up front, especially for replacing a full arch. Implants involve surgery, healing time, and lab fabrication of crowns or bridges — that adds up. Over a lifetime, implants often work out competitively because they last longer and don’t require periodic relining or replacement.

Comfort and function: implants feel like natural teeth. You don’t take them out, they don’t shift while eating, and there’s no foreign body sensation under your tongue or against your palate. Dentures — even well-fitting ones — rest on your gums and tissue, and most patients adapt to them rather than forget them.

Bone health: implants stimulate the jawbone the same way natural teeth do, which preserves the bone and the natural shape of your face. Dentures don’t stimulate bone, so the underlying ridge gradually shrinks — this is why dentures eventually need relining or replacement to keep fitting properly.

Maintenance: implants are brushed and flossed like natural teeth. Dentures are taken out for cleaning, soaked overnight, and brought back in. Some patients prefer the routine of taking them out; others find it inconvenient. Implant-retained dentures (a hybrid) snap onto a few implants for stability while still being removable for cleaning.

There’s no universally right answer. We’ll discuss your specific situation, your priorities, and your budget honestly — then help you choose the option that fits.
