Restorative dentistry

Rebuild damaged or missing teeth — here in Stuarts Draft.

Custom full and partial dentures designed to fit comfortably and look natural — Dr. Weatherwax's specialty.

Removable prosthodontics — full and partial dentures — is one of Dr. Weatherwax's favorite areas of dentistry. That matters, because the difference between a denture that just works and one that's truly comfortable comes down to the care taken in fitting it.

We also do dental crowns, bridges, fillings, and inlays/onlays — the everyday restoration work that keeps your existing teeth strong for as long as possible. For patients who'd rather replace teeth permanently, we discuss implant alternatives at the same visit.

No referrals needed

Root canals, dentures, and implants — handled here.

Most small-town practices send these cases to specialists in Staunton or Charlottesville. We don’t. The same dentist you trust for cleanings does the bigger work too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Restorative dentistry — the questions we hear most.

How long does a dental crown last?

A well-made crown on a healthy tooth typically lasts ten to fifteen years, and many last considerably longer. The lifespan depends on the materials, how well the tooth underneath is cared for, and habits like grinding or chewing ice. Dr. Weatherwax uses high-quality porcelain and zirconia options that hold up well to everyday wear.

Are dentures the only option for missing teeth?

No — you have real choices. For a single missing tooth, a dental implant or a bridge is often a better long-term option than a partial denture. For multiple missing teeth, implant-supported dentures stay firmly in place and feel much closer to natural teeth. Dr. Weatherwax walks you through all the options and the honest tradeoffs of each.

How do you decide between a filling and a crown?

It comes down to how much healthy tooth structure is left. Small to medium cavities are handled with a filling. When a tooth is heavily decayed, cracked, or has had a root canal, a crown protects what's left so it doesn't break later. We always choose the most conservative option that will actually hold up over time.

Do you make dentures here in the office?

Custom dentures are one of Dr. Weatherwax's specialties, and we coordinate the entire process from impressions through fit adjustments right here in Stuarts Draft. You won't be shuffled to a separate facility. We take the time to get the fit, bite, and tooth shape right — because a denture that doesn't fit well is a denture you won't wear.

What if I'm nervous about restorative work?

Restorative appointments are usually longer than a cleaning, and we understand that can feel like a lot. Both nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available, and we plan the visit to keep you comfortable from start to finish. If you'd like to come in just to meet Dr. Weatherwax and ask questions before committing, that's welcome too.
