We’re glad you’re thinking about coming in. This page covers what to expect at your first visit, the forms you’ll fill out beforehand, what we accept for insurance and payment, and a plain answer for the question on most minds: what if I don’t have dental insurance at all?
What to expect
A simple, calm, unhurried first appointment.
Plan on about an hour for your first visit. We’ll do a comprehensive exam — teeth, gums, soft tissue, jaw, and an oral cancer screening — take any X-rays we need, and clean your teeth if there’s time and you’re due for one.
After the exam, Dr. Weatherwax will walk you through what she sees, in plain language. If anything needs follow-up, you’ll leave with a written treatment plan and a clear sense of what each item costs. No pressure to commit on the spot.
If dental visits make you anxious, tell us when you book. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are both available, and we’ll work with you on whatever helps you feel safest in the chair.
What to bring
A short checklist so the front desk can get you in faster.
- Photo ID— driver’s license, state ID, or passport.
- Your insurance card (if you have one). Our front-office team runs the benefits for you so you know what’s covered before any treatment begins.
- Current medications — a list or a photo of the bottles. Dental work and prescriptions can interact, and we want to plan around yours.
- Any X-rays taken in the last 12 months by another office. Forward them ahead of time at draft@willisdentistry.com and we’ll have them in your chart when you arrive.
- Your list of questions. Bring them written down — it’s easier to ask in the chair than to remember in the moment.
Payment, simplified
With or without insurance.
Most major PPO plans are accepted at Willis & Associates Family Dentistry - Stuarts Draft. If you don’t carry dental insurance, ask about Virginia Dental Club — our in-house membership covers your routine care for one flat annual fee, with member discounts on everything else. CareCredit and in-office payment plans are available for larger treatment plans.

Anxious about dental visits? You’re in good company. Two options are available when you’d like a calmer appointment — nitrous oxide and oral sedation — from a routine cleaning to a longer restorative visit. Tell the front desk when you book and we’ll plan for it.
