In-house implant care
Dental implants — placed and restored in Stuarts Draft.
Permanent tooth replacement, placed and restored right here in Stuarts Draft. No drive to a specialist.
Dental implants are the most natural-feeling way to replace a missing tooth — and most small-town dental practices send patients to Staunton or Charlottesville for them. We don't. Dr. Weatherwax has the training to plan, place, and restore your implant from start to finish, in our office on Stuarts Draft Hwy.
For a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, or a full-arch All-on-4 case, you'll get the same calm step-by-step plan and the same dentist seeing you through. We discuss pricing up front, and our Virginia Dental Club helps make the work attainable for patients without insurance.
Why this matters
No referrals. No specialist drive. One dentist, start to finish.
Most small-town dental practices send implant patients to Staunton or Charlottesville. Dr. Weatherwax has the training to plan, place, and restore your implant right here.
What to expect
From consult to crown, step by step.
The treatment timeline runs three to six months on average, with most of that time being your jawbone healing around the implant. Here’s how the appointments look.
- 1
Consult & 3D scan
We talk through what you’re hoping for, examine the area, and take a 3D cone-beam scan to see the bone and surrounding teeth in full detail. By the end of the visit you’ll have a treatment plan and a written cost estimate.
- 2
Implant placement
A single appointment, usually about an hour. Dr. Weatherwax places the titanium implant post into the jaw under local anesthetic, with nitrous or oral sedation available if you’d like one. Most patients are back to a normal day after a soft-food evening.
- 3
Crown placement
After three to six months, once the bone has fully integrated with the implant, you come in for the final crown — custom-matched to your existing teeth. You leave with a tooth that looks, feels, and functions like the one you grew yourself.
Bone grafting, sinus lift, or extraction work needed first? We handle those in-house too, often combining steps to keep your total number of visits low.

Dental implants — the questions we hear most.
How long does a dental implant take from start to finish?
Most single-tooth implants take four to six months from placement to final crown. The implant post goes in during a short surgical visit, then the bone heals around it for three to four months before you come back for the permanent crown. We give you a realistic timeline at your consult so you know what to expect at every step.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most healthy adults with reasonable bone and gum health are good candidates. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, or heavy bone loss can complicate things, but they rarely rule implants out entirely. Dr. Weatherwax takes a 3D CBCT scan at your consult so you get a clear answer based on your own anatomy, not a guess.
Does the implant surgery hurt?
The surgical visit itself is done under local anesthesia, with nitrous or oral sedation available if you'd like to be more relaxed. Most patients tell us the recovery felt closer to a tooth extraction than anything dramatic. Mild soreness for a couple of days, managed with ibuprofen, is the usual story.
What if I've already lost bone where the tooth used to be?
Bone loss is common when a tooth has been missing for a while, and it doesn't disqualify you. A bone graft can rebuild the site before the implant is placed, or sometimes during the same visit. Dr. Weatherwax handles grafting in-house, so you won't be sent to a separate specialist for it.
Will my insurance cover any part of an implant?
Some dental plans cover part of the crown that sits on top, and a few cover part of the implant itself, but most leave a meaningful balance. We verify your coverage before treatment and walk you through every number. Virginia Dental Club members get a discount on implant work, and CareCredit financing is available too.
